Universal Orlando Attractions: Insider Mobility Information
Diagon Alley
If you’re a Harry Potter superfan (or even if you’re not), Diagon Alley is a can’t-miss attraction. This incredible themed area allows you to retrace Harry’s footsteps through London and then enter the hidden Diagon Alley. While you’re there, be sure to purchase your own wizarding wand at Ollivanders wand shop, grab some bangers and mash at the Leaky Cauldron, or check out the Tales of Beedle the Bard stage show.
Diagon Alley is also home to Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, a multi-dimensional thrill ride that is one of the best – and most popular – experiences Universal Studios Florida has to offer. The ride has a modified vehicle that allows mobility users to transfer from their scooter or wheelchair and onto the ride. However, for safety reasons, riders should be able to maintain an upright position by themselves, as Escape from Gringotts has a few quick drops and sudden movements.
Springfield: Home of the Simpsons
This themed area is entirely dedicated to the longest-running animated series of all time: The Simpsons. Fans of the show will be able to explore some of Springfield’s most iconic locations, such as the Kwik-E-Mart and Moe’s Tavern. There are also plenty of opportunities to have your photo taken with some of the show’s popular characters, including Krusty the Clown, Sideshow Bob, and the Simpsons family themselves.
The area’s signature attraction is the Simpsons Ride, a motion-simulator roller coaster that takes you on a wild adventure through Krusty the Clown’s low-budget amusement park, Krustyland. Like Escape from Gringotts in Diagon Alley, the Simpsons Ride has a modified vehicle that allows mobility users to transfer from their scooter or wheelchair and onto the ride.
Revenge of the Mummy
Interested in something a little more thrilling? Look no further than the Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal Studios Florida. This exciting, enclosed roller coaster drops you into complete darkness as you attempt to escape the evil Mummy Imhotep. Based on The Mummy film franchise, the ride lets you race forwards and backwards through ancient tombs and, at one point, launches you from 0 to 45 mph in a matter of seconds. Needless to say, this roller coaster isn’t for the faint of heart! However, if you’re a thrill seeker, you won’t want to miss fantastic attraction.
As you would expect from a high-speed roller coaster, Revenge of the Mummy has plenty of sudden drops and quick accelerations. The attraction has a modified vehicle that allows mobility users to transfer from their scooter or wheelchair and onto the ride, and riders should be able to maintain an upright position independently.
Hogwarts Express
The Hogwarts Express allows you to travel between the two different areas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Just like in the books and movies, you’ll start in the famous King’s Cross Station at Platform 9¾ in the Universal Studios Park and then travel across the resort as you check out characters and creatures from the Harry Potter universe. You’ll then be dropped in Hogsmeade Village in Islands of Adventure. The train goes both ways and provides a different experience each direction, so feel free to take the journey starting from Hogsmeade as well.
Even better, the Hogwarts Express is the only ride at Universal Orlando that can fully accommodate mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs, meaning you won’t need to transfer out of your device to get onboard!
