As the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C. offers visitors a lot to explore and the 2027 Cherry Blossom Festival is a great time to experience the city. The 2027 festival is scheduled for March 20 through April 11, with events and activities throughout Washington, D.C. The cherry blossom trees can be seen in three areas: around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and on the Washington Monument Grounds.

The 2027 festival celebrates the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan with a wide range of spring programming, including cultural performances, community events, and signature festival experiences. Because event details can change as the festival approaches, visitors should check the official festival schedule while planning their trip.

How Accessible Is the National Cherry Blossom Festival?

Many of the major memorials and viewing areas around the Tidal Basin are accessible. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Memorials are on ground level, the Jefferson Memorial has an elevator on the side of the building, and the Tidal Basin walkway is a single-level path in many areas. Accessible restrooms are available near the MLK, FDR, and Jefferson Memorials.

Washington D.C. is one of the most handicap accessible cities in the country. In fact, it was in D.C. that the US Congress recognized and established the rights of the disabled when it passed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990!

Handicap Parking for the Cherry Blossom Festival

Accessible parking is limited near the Tidal Basin and National Mall, especially during peak bloom and on festival weekends. Designated accessible parking may be available near major memorials such as the Franklin Delano Roosevelt, World War II, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln, Korean War Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans Memorials, but visitors should review posted signs and current festival transportation guidance before arrival.

Looking to get dropped off? Curbside access and road patterns can change during the festival, so plan ahead and confirm current drop-off guidance before you travel. Areas near the MLK/FDR Memorials along West Basin Drive and behind the Jefferson Memorial have historically offered convenient access close to the blossoms, including routes toward the water’s edge.

Disability placards/permits or tags from any state allow you to park in any parking space designated for a disabled person and park for double the posted time in any metered spaces without paying the meter. International visitors must apply for a Disability Parking Placard at any DMV service center. If your request is approved, you may be issued a one-week permit, a temporary placard or a long-term placard. There is no charge for a disability placard or permit.
